Cover Art by Rebecca Rosenheck

The cover art for this year's May in Montclair Calendar of Events was lovingly created by Rebecca Rosenheck, a member of Studio Montclair. Her entry was one of nineteen submissions received from area artists this year. Her painting celebrates the beauty and spirit of volunteerism and community that has been the driving force behind May in Montclair since it began over 38 years ago. Her donation of this original painting for the Calendar of Events book cover is greatly appreciated.

Ms. Rosenheck's work has been recently shown at Studio Montclair's State of the Art 2017 and Ridgewood Art Institute's 37th Annual Juried Show. Her paintings of flowers at Van Vleck Gardens and Presby Iris Gardens were highlighted in the fall issue of Montclair Magazine. Originally from Baltimore, her chemical engineering profession brought her to New Jersey, where she took her first pastel art class at the Montclair Art Museum. Years spent learning to paint at the Montclair Art Museum led to her Independent Study work.

Fittingly, Ms. Rosenheck's tulip painting was done outside, en plein air, at the Avis Campbell Gardens in Montclair. It is mixed media. "Seeing the sparkle of sunlight pass through the petals of the tulips on that warm, sunny day inspired me to try to capture their gorgeous, luminous color in my painting. By immersing myself in the landscape, I hoped to convey the beauty and splendor of the tulips, exemplified by the May in Montclair project."
